Our Story at Fenns Farm

Fenns Farm has been home to the Renshaw family for five generations, and caring for this special corner of the Staffordshire Peak District has always been at the heart of what we do.

Traditionally, the farm was run as a dairy and sheep farm set high on the hills above Butterton. During the 1990s, the focus gradually shifted towards a suckler herd and beef production, continuing a long tradition of working the land with care and respect.

In more recent years, we have lovingly restored several of the original stone farm buildings, transforming them into welcoming Peak District holiday accommodation for guests to enjoy. Today, Fenns Farm offers a range of places to stay — from simple camping barns to luxury self-catering holiday cottages — allowing visitors to experience the peace and beauty of the countryside in a way that suits them best.

From Working Barns to Welcoming Holiday Cottages

Each of our barns has its own story to tell.
Originally, they were used to shelter cattle during the winter months, with hay stored in the loft spaces above to feed the animals through the colder seasons. Fenns Barn once served as stabling for the farm’s shire horses in earlier days. Foggs’ Barn, one of the oldest buildings on the farm and shown on the earliest local maps, was also the main dairy where milk was stored ready for daily collection.

These two neighbouring barns sit within the original farmyard beside the farmhouse and can be booked together for larger family gatherings or group holidays in the Peak District.

Further from the farmyard, Wills Bunk Barn and Waterslacks Camping Barn are traditional Peak District field barns. In years gone by, a small number of cattle would be milked there each day and kept warm through the winter. Today, their peaceful, more secluded settings offer quiet countryside stays with beautiful views across the surrounding landscape.

A Place We Never Tire Of

Even after generations at Fenns Farm, we never tire of the beauty that surrounds us. Walking the many footpaths straight from our door is one of our greatest pleasures, and every year we still discover new routes, hidden views, and quiet corners of the Peak District to enjoy as a family.

Today, the Renshaw family — Jason, Michelle and the girls — are proud to share Fenns Farm with guests looking for a peaceful holiday cottage stay in the Peak District.

We look forward to welcoming you and helping you create your own special memories here.
