From the famous stepping stones at Dovedale to the peaceful paths of the Manifold Trail, there are routes to suit gentle strolls and longer adventures alike. Nearby, the dramatic gritstone edges of The Roaches offer breathtaking views, while the charming village of Hartington and the historic earthworks of Pilsbury Castle provide wonderful days out filled with scenery, history, and quiet countryside charm.

Chatsworth House is one of the region’s most famous landmarks, with magnificent interiors, sweeping parkland, riverside walks, and seasonal events throughout the year. Nearby, Haddon Hall offers a quieter but equally enchanting experience, with medieval architecture, romantic gardens, and a timeless atmosphere.

For a relaxed day out, the historic market town of Bakewell is perfect for wandering independent shops, enjoying traditional tearooms, and, of course, sampling the famous Bakewell pudding beside the River Wye.

Families will find plenty to keep children entertained too. Peak Wildlife Park provides close-up animal encounters in a friendly, open setting, while Alton Towers Resort offers thrilling rides, themed attractions, and full days of excitement just a short drive away.

If you’re interested in craftsmanship and local heritage, the World of Wedgwood is well worth a visit, with factory tours, museums, shopping, and places to eat — a fascinating glimpse into one of Staffordshire’s most celebrated traditions.

Just a short walk from the farm in the village of Butterton, you’ll find the much-loved Black Lion — a favourite with both locals and guests. Alongside its warm welcome, hearty food, and relaxed village atmosphere, the Black Lion is also thoughtfully focused on sustainability and the future, offering show stopping food in casual surroundings.

Electric vehicle drivers can charge their cars while enjoying a meal, and the pub works hard to reduce waste by using 100% recycled paper products, composting, and recycling all food waste locally.

The team proudly supports local farmers, dairies, and breweries, showcasing high-quality regional produce and a wide variety of local beers. Shopping

All major supermarkets deliver into the village. If you do have an online delivery, you must give exact directions to each property, as the postcode covers the whole of Wetton Road.

Our nearest town for supplies is Leek, where there is a Morrisons, Sainsburys, Asda, Aldi and a Lidl. This is a 12 minute drive.
 
The highly popular Leek market is every Wednesday and every first Sunday of each month there is the "Totally Locally" speciality market.
