3 min read

There is nothing quite like winter in the Peak District. When the frost settles over the hills, the crisp country air sets in, and our historic towns light up with festive cheer, it truly becomes a magical place to be.

If you are staying with us at Fenns Farm Accommodation over the holiday season, you are perfectly placed to experience some of the UK’s finest festive events. From world-class estate decorations to bustling artisan markets, here is your ultimate guide to what’s on in the area for Christmas 2026.

1. Christmas at Chatsworth House

Dates: 7 November 2026 – 3 January 2027 (Market open until 13 December)

No festive trip to the Peaks is complete without a visit to the magnificent Chatsworth House. This year, the grand rooms of the house will be lavishly transformed into an immersive experience inspired by The 12 Days of Christmas.

  • The Highlights: Explore the beautifully dressed rooms inside the house, and then wrap up warm to experience the spectacular light and sound trail winding through the gardens.

  • The Christmas Market: Running daily until 13th December, the Chatsworth Christmas Market features over 100 festive stalls offering gifts, handcrafted decorations, and delicious seasonal street food.

  • Fenns Farm Tip: Tickets must be booked online in advance, especially for parking! It can get very busy, so choosing a weekday morning session is a great way to enjoy a quieter experience.

Dates: Wednesdays to Sundays, 11 November – 20 December 2026

For a deeply atmospheric, historic Christmas experience, head over to Haddon Hall for their famous Mercatum Christmas Artisan Market.

  • The Highlights: Haddon Hall is one of the most beautifully preserved medieval manor houses in the country. For six weeks, its ancient rooms, grand banqueting galleries, and historic courtyard play host to over 750 weekly-changing elite artisans.

  • The Atmosphere: Think roaring open fires, twinkling fairy lights, the scent of mulled wine, and live music drifting through the medieval halls.

  • Fenns Farm Tip: Because the artisans rotate every week, you'll find completely different handmade crafts and unique gifts depending on when you visit. Tickets require pre-booking and are split into morning, afternoon, and twilight sessions.

3. Local Christmas Markets & Festivals

Beyond the big estates, our surrounding market towns host beautiful independent shopping events that are perfect for picking up local Peak District treats.

  • Bakewell Christmas Market Weekend (14 & 15 November 2026): Take a short drive into the heart of Bakewell to experience a quintessential English market. Spread across the town center, this free-to-attend event boasts 100 stalls highlighting local traders, specialty festive foods, and live entertainment. Be sure to grab a warm Bakewell pudding while you're there!

  • Bakewell Christmas Sparkle (29 November 2026): Held indoors at the Agricultural Business Centre, this festive fair features local makers, a magical tipi grotto for kids, and seasonal food vendors.

  • Victorian Matlock Christmas Market (4 – 6 December 2026): For an incredible festive spectacle, Matlock’s Hall Leys Park will fill with over 150 stalls, a festive parade, Santa's grotto, and a firework display.
